A Little Bit of India

A Little Bit of India

During a recent visit from Rotarians from Tamil Nadu, a group of Frankston Rotarians gathered in the car park of the Frankston Internation Motel. No, they were not super early for the evening meeting. They were there to meet and greet ten lovely visiting Rotarians and wives from Tamil Nadu, India. As they arrived from their stay with our fellow Rotarians in Frankston North, Ken Rowe, Geoff and Anne Raukawa, Wayne Gillan and Marie Hardwick were there to meet them.

Luggage, tons and tons of it, was quickly transferred, then it was onto a train at Chelsea station to explore Melbourne. Geoff, Anne and Marie escorted our visitors to Fed Square, St Paul's, The NGV at Fed Square, then on to China Town for the cultural experience and lunch. As some of our visitors were particularly interesed in architecture, they had their fill of the magnificence of Melbourne's grand buildings. To top off their city visit they were taken to The Block Arcade – a jewel in the crown of the Melboure experience, where the visitors were excited to find Haigh's Chocolate shop!

Returning to Chelsea station, the visitors were met by Ken in the minibus, and were escorted to their respective hosts, two of whom were Margot and Keith Kimpton who opened their home to all the guests and host Rotarians for a night of fine Indian dining, prepared by all the hosts, followed by a little concert from the Indian ladies, and a few numbers from our talented Anne and Geoff Raukawa.

The visitors were really lovely people, excited and happy with every aspect of their Melbourne/Frankston experience.

Friday morning came all too quickly and our visitors were transported by Ken, Wayne and the Raukawas to Tooradin to be met by Rotarians from Korrumburra.

The warmth and generosity of Frankston Rotarians was deeply appreciated by the visitors who issued standing invitations to “come and visit us”.

Sincere thanks to Ken and Sue Rowe, Keith and Margot Kimpton, Geoff and Anne Raukawa, Wayne and Sue Gillan and Marie Hardwick for hosting our Tamil Nadu Rotarians.
