ORDINARY CLUB MEETING

Andrew Swaine, President of Mornington Rail.
”Victorian Railways to present day”

My name is Andrew Swaine. I have been a volunteer with the Mornington Railway since 1984, and became its President five years ago.

In my non-railway life I am married, live in Brighton and have two adult children. Three generations of my family are involved in the Mornington Railway: myself, my son (who is working on carriage restoration work and training to be a steam locomotive driver) and my father, who is a former President, and at 84 years of age is still actively involved in the railway as the manager of our Safety Management subcommittee.

I presently work as a Purchasing Manager for a lubrication company in Dandenong South, and previously worked in IT for a multinational company based in Moorabbin (22 years) and as a store manager for a major grocery retailer (10 years).

I have no formal qualifications for the work I do at the railway, other than a boiler attendants ticket. Everything else I have learned has been picked up on the job. I am proud to say that I could completely disassemble and then rebuild a K class steam locomotive on my own, although nowadays that is not a very marketable skill.

I look forward to spending some time with you today to share the story of the Mornington Railway.
